KIDS CORNER

EWGYSA likes to recognize players from week to week.  It could be a child's first goal or perhaps a multi-goal game or a great play or simply some excellent effort during a game or practice.  We want to get the kids excited about the possibility of being recognized and encourage everyone to read each publication or visit the website.  So, if you have someone you'd like to recognize, please send a brief synopsis of the player you'd like recognized and the reason why and and we'll add it here.  Thanks! Send emails to VicePresident@EWGSoccer.org

5/18/13 I would like to recognize Riley White for his first ever goal. I have coached Riley over the last few seasons and though he always gives 110% at every game that first score has always alluded him. But he and I went into this season determined to get one in the back of the net and finally during our U10 game on May 11 he did just that. Putting himself in perfect position to drill one past the goalie during a corner kick. Riley has been a pleasure to coach and those who know him know how hard he works to become the best player he can be. Just another reason why being a recreational coach is so rewarding. U10 Coach-Bob Sullivan

As the season passes the midpoint, the progress that Team 505 shows is incredible. From learning what the most important thing about playing soccer is "To have fun!!” to watching as skills emerge from each and every player on my team. This past week, I had an extra special player. When I first met Ellie, she was a shy girl, but now, as we reach the middle of the season, she has become a leader of the team. Teaching by example how to be a great teammate, who passes to others and helps each other, as well as scoring her first goal of the year. Ellie proves that being a teammate, sharing and helping have great benefits. Thank you, Ellie, for your help, leadership, and especially your smile. They have greatly added to our special team, Team 505. I say yet again how proud I am, to be the coach of these amazing boy and girls. -Coach Berto

I would like to recognize Ashley Balme for her first goal of the season.  She really worked hard today. Ashley always tries her best and is a pleasure to coach.  She comes to every game with a big smile.  Great job Ashley and what a great day to score your first goal, on your mom’s birthday!  Happy Birthday, Michele! Thanks Coach Kim 502

5/4/13 Opening Day @ EWG Soccer was a memorable one. The frozen tundra claimed home to one chilly morning of youth soccer. I would like to give my player of the week award to the entire roster of team 505 for coming out and braving the temperature. I would especially like to honor Jonathan for transforming from the shy young man who would not move/talk during beginning of session to being the scorer of our first goal!!
I am so proud to be the coach of Team 505. And can't wait for the weeks to come!!
Coach- Berto

4/13/13 Well, here we are folks after opening day, spring break, and Mother Nature deciding a monsoon  was in order last week. I feel like we are just now beginning our season  a
nd what a beginning. Bright sun, spring temperatures, and seven amazing little soccer players ready to play. After a terrific training session we headed to the pitch for our game.
While each and every member of team 505 played great and made me a very proud coach, Makenzie displayed a level of play that was beautiful. She scored two goals, played incredible defense, and all while helping her teammates and giving them encouragement. As we progress through the season I look forward to seeing her continue to improve and help all her teammates.
Most importantly......Team 505 learned the most important lesson about playing soccer!!!! TO HAVE FUN!!!
Coach Berto

4/13/13 Today’s game was great!  Both teams played well!  In our second game of the season one of my players showed some excellent skills.  She scored her first goal of the season, but without blinking an eye, scored another goal in the very next play.  I am happy to recognize Lillian Lane for a great game.  Good game Lilli!  I can’t wait to see you play again!

Coach Kim Team 502

04/27/13 I would like to recognize two of my players, Cameron Sjogren and
Logan Modugno from team 502.  The very first game of the season they played as if they had played together for years.  They passed to each other, and assisted each other to score several goals.  Although the goals are exciting, I was most impressed to see their team work and ball handling skills.  The first game of the season was great! Cameron and Logan, Great game!
Coach Kim Team 502

04/20/2013 I would like to recognize U10 Rec player

Anthony Tartoria for scoring his first ever goal. What made this moment so special is when the game started he opted to sit on the bench for the first half because he had never played before and having mi...ssed our first practice he felt he wasn't ready to play in the game. At half time I asked him to give it a try and he asked "what do I do" I replied just score a goal. Not only did he score a goal he had three more shots on net. He cant wait until practice and the next game. I'm not sure who had the bigger smile him or myself! One of the many rewards of being a soccer coach!

Coach Bob Sullivan U10 Rec

My player of the week for Team 504 - now known as Team Lightning - is the co-leading scorer Christopher Bertolami. In the first week of his first season of organized soccer, Christopher had to sit for most of the game as he was unprepared to share and deal with the competition. However, since then the strides in both healthy competition and teamwork have been tremendous.
As my son he has been asked to share me with all of his teammates and in this he has also done a wonderful job in adjusting.
The skillls, speed and love of athletics will allow for this little man to go far in soccer if he chooses. As a proud father I acknowledge that I am biased but as a proud coach I acknowledge that he has the abilities.Coach Berto

10/13/2012 This week, the Electric Tigers in the U10 division wanted to recognize
Jenna Wilbur as their Player of the Week. From the first game of the season, Jenna didn’t hesitate to jump into the goalkeeper position, despite not having any experience tending the nets. In fact, she’s been so excited about playing keeper that she even purchased new goalie gloves and a new keeper jersey which helped spawn the team name. Jenna’s enthusiasm has been unmatched, as evidenced by her sly smile in the photo, and her willingness to sacrifice herself to stop shots on goal has been unparalleled. This past weekend, Jenna even blocked a shot with her face, but in a testament to her fortitude, she refused to be substituted from the game and continued leading the team in the net! At the end of the game, the team voted that Jenna’s save was the best one they’d seen all season! Great job, Jenna, and congratulations on being a Player of the Week!

10/13/2012 This week I really want to recognize Bryanna Rawnsley. Like all the U12 teams, we have a roster of 13 players this year, most of them returning players season after season, and several competitive players as well. Although Bryanna played before, I understand it's been a long time. At this morning's game, Bryanna scored her first goal of the season! I have watched as Bryanna improve week after week and today she was perfectly positioned in front of the goal to score! Great job, Bryanna! Welcome back to soccer! I've attached a picture of Bryanna looking back at the net after scoring.....her friends all ran up to her to congratulate her!
Rich Reynolds > Coach, Team 122

10/03/2012 My player of the week this week is Audrey Bonin. Audrey has made terrific strides and is really coming into her own as a player. The transformation, beginning in week one, has made me a proud coach.   Audrey always showed an enthusiasm and talent to play soccer, now she has paired that with growing confidence  which will allow her to be a fantastic soccer player and all around person at all age levels.   Apart from soccer her love of her sister Kelsey (see last week's Player of Week) is truly heart warming. Audrey always is the big sister making sure that her little sister is safe and happy.   I would like to thank Audrey for being such a special little girl both in the game of soccer and the game of life. She and her sister make these last four Saturday mornings that much better and make me feel so privileged to be their coach. (Ok, and their outfits are awesome too!!)   Sincerely, Coach Berto Team 504

09/18/2012 My player of the week last week was Kelsey Bonin. As a 3 year old she is out there and plays hard as all the older children. She landed belly first on the ball and I thought she would be done. Not only did she bounce back up but when I asked her if she was ok, she looked at me as though I was silly for asking her. She is terrific at following directions. She has a terrific energy and desire to play. I have nicknamed her peanut but she plays anything but. Thank you~Coach Berto~Team 504

09/27/2012 Even Though this was a hard decision to nominate a player from Team 808 because each player on the team has special qualities, I nominated Sydney Schuberth. The reason why I am nominating Sydney is because she has been trying hard to score a goal for her mom during every soccer game. Through her hard work, dedication and near goal attempts, Sydney finally scored a goal for her mom, unfortunately, mom was away and didn’t see the goal. The best part of the goal wasn’t the goal itself but the smile on Sydney's face. I am very proud of Sydney and everyone on Team 808 and it is an honor to be there coach! - Coach Ben Team 808

09/25/2012 For my player of the week for week 3. I must nominate Gavin Jervis. In week 2 Gavin became the first player on Team 504 to make a pass. This became a point I was able to build on and when week 3 began, Team 504 made strides in playing toge...
ther: passing, spacing themselves, working as a team; this all stemmed from Gavin Jervis. As a reward for all of his hard work, Gavin even scored a goal in Week 3. I was so proud of him. I am so proud of all of Team 504 as they grow both as a team and as individual athletes! It is a privilege to be their coach.
Thank you ~ Coach Berto~Team 504

09/17/2012 This week was a special week for one of our U8 players
Leah McCue, who scored her first ever soccer goal this past Saturday! Leah collected the ball just over midline and dribbled the remaining length of the field to slot home a solid score for her team. While the goal was exciting, the best part was the smile on her face, as she sprinted off the field after scoring the goal to high five her older brother and sister who were watching the game from the sideline! Congratulations, Leah, on a job well done!

09/13/2012 OK here it is: My player of the week is Emily Palmisano
Emily played last Spring for the first time and as a 3-year-old was the youngest player on the team. She spent a lot of time clinging to Mom's leg 4 months ago, but enjoyed her experience enough to come back this fall. Still only 3, she wanted to play with the same group of kids, so she is playing up an age group on my U5 team now. According to Mom, she practiced a lot over the summer and boy does it show! Emily is out there with gobs of confidence and scored her first goal in our very first game! Coach ~ Michelle Powers "Super Powers" Team 501

09/10/2012  While I was so proud of my team on the first day, my player of the week award goes to:
Brody Richards
I received an email prior to week 1 from Brody's mom telling me that last season he hid under her chair each week. She was hoping this would not happen again.
Well, after a shy introduction, Brody really came out of his shell. Not only did he not hide under a chair, he was involved in drills, played a large part of the game, and even scored our only goal!! I was really proud of him!! Next week my all-stars will be playing again and there will be a new star of the week!!! Thanks!! Coach~John Bertolami

04/26/2012  Mary & Evan are two giving kids! They had learned this year that there are some kids that cannot play soccer because their families cant afford it... SO what did these two thoughtful kids do... They decided that instead of receiving birthday gifts this year, they would ask their guests to make a donation to EWGYSA, so that the money could be used to help kids who may not be able to play soccer because of finances! The kids collected $120.00!!
Thank You Mary & Evan!!

04/25/2012  I am writing today to officially recognize Jack Geisser for his outstanding example of sportsmanship.  In spite of a recent injury which rendered him unable to play in the rec game, Jack still showed up to the field at 9am with a cast on his foot to cheer his team on.  His teammates were happy and surprised that Jack thought so much of them to show up and support the team.  This is a great example of camaraderie and sportsmanship.  With parental permission, I have attached a picture of Jack that can be used by EWG.
Thank you, Bob Sullivan (Coach of U10, Team 106)
